    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Ecological Evolution Lab at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanic Garden is inviting applications for a bioinformatics postdoc position. The responsibilities of the position will be data-mining genomic databases, and assisting in the development of advanced genotyping techniques for poorly known and endangered rainforest taxa. Currently, we are sequencing several species of tropical rainforest tree using the Solexa/Illumina platform and have assembled their chloroplast genomes and sections of their nuclear genomes. The ideal researcher would take these data to the next level, using novel techniques in comparative genomics and genome annotation for major discover.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should have a PhD degree, with a focus on bioinformatics and strong cross-platform skills, primarily working in the LINUX-UNIX environment, including data management and analytical programming. Expertise in the use of the Mathematica software package would also be advantageous. Good command of English is necessary and publication in leading international journals expected.

    BACKGROUND

    Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a comprehensive research institution focused on biodiversity conservation and sustainable uses of plant resources, with emphases on forest ecosystem ecology, conservation biology and resource plant development. The Ecological Evolution lab at XTBG is newly established at XTBG and is assembling an international team of researchers at various levels.

    LOCALE

    This position will be based at either the Kunming branch or in the gardens, depending on the best working conditions.
