    DESCRIPTION

    We are looking for a BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST to join Monsanto's research and development team at our St. Louis, MO headquarters which drives the Next-Generation Sequencing technology advancement. In this position the Bioinformatics plays a critical role to realize the great potential of these game-changing technical platforms. The candidate who fills this position will apply their knowledge to strategic and tactical issues in the general area of Next-Gen Sequencing (454/Illumina/SOLID/etc.) analysis and bioinformatics. Specific projects include supporting the Next-Gen platforms, applying bioinformatic analysis to sequence assembly, gene and marker discovery, functional and comparative genomics applications through hands-on programming. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to and drive strategies for Next-Gen Sequencing bioinformatic analysis.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and skillful in Perl programming (Java or C a plus). UNIX experience is required, as well as Relational Database design and access methods. Expert use of biological sequence databases is required, as well as in depth knowledge of the bioinformatic analysis on the genome scale. Preference will be given to candidates with significant previous experience in Next-Generation Sequencing analysis. Candidates must have significant scientific programming in one or more of the following areas: general and Next-Gen sequencing analysis, gene and marker discovery, comparative and functional bioinformatics.

    PREFERENCES

    Ph.D., or M.S. or equivalent in Biology, Bioinformatics, or Computer Science or other related disciplines. Experience in a research, agricultural, biotech or drug discovery environment specializing in high throughput genomics is highly desirable.
