The Morgridge Institute for Research is seeking an experienced individual to join its team. The Morgridge Institute is a growing independent not-for-profit research institution dedicated to facilitating breakthrough research collaborations to improve human health.
The Morgridge Institute will have a state-of-the-art facility opening in 2010 adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The Research Specialist-DNA Sequencing, serves as part of the Bioinformatics Group at the Morgridge Institute and will be responsible for supporting DNA sequencing using the Illumina DNA sequencer. This next generation sequencing technology opens up an exciting array of research possibilities focused on studying gene expression and transcriptional regulation in embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives. General duties include but are not limited to: DNA and RNA sample extraction and preparation; DNA sequencing; the implementation of new methods for sample preparation and sequencing, as they become available; and cell culture. This position requires working closely with the Assistant Scientist-DNA Sequencing to develop effective methods and processes for the aforementioned tasks.REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biological sciences and experience with molecular biology bench work are required. Experience working with DNA, including PCR amplification and sequencing and sterile cell culture techniques is desired. Some familiarity with Bioinformatics would be a plus. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate ability to work independently as well as work with others in a lab setting.
