    BACKGROUND

ArrayExpress is an international repository gene expression data and other array based data and an EBI core repository. The ArrayExpress production team acquires, curates and integrates gene expression and HTP data from Array based technologies from individual submitters and institutions. Our team consists of 8 bioinformaticians, ontologists and perl programmers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a Bioinformatician who will participate in the:
    • Development of standard formats, semantic support, and data processing applications for data within the ArrayExpress Infrastructure.
    • Development and implementation of standard meta analysis pipelines and production of meta-analysed data sets based on the ArrayExpress content. These will be used to evaluate QC methods and used for data integration and data mining.
    • Development of tools to manage data flow into ArrayExpress.
    • Curation and management of data in XML and tab delimited formats.
    • Integration of data in the EBI.

    REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate holds a first degree in a biomedical science or Bioinformatics and ideally has post-doctoral or equivalent experience in a research environment. 3 years of experience in Perl programming (object oriented and database programming, use and development of modules) and data manipulation in a bioinformatics environment are required. Familiarity with XML, HTML, SQL, and/or Ruby would be an advantage. Further, the post holder should have practical experience with microarray or other HTP data analysis (preferably using Bioconductor) and with the development, evaluation or application of ontologies in OWL or OBO. Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as very good English skills are required.
