ABOUT US

The MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London is at the forefront of studies of the role of genetics and the environment in development, mental health and disease, and has multiple research programs under-taking genome-wide approaches: genetic association, gene expression, and epigenetics. The goal of the Centre is to bridge the gap between 'nature' (genetics) and 'nurture' (environment) as they interact in the development of complex behavioural dimensions and disorders. Collaborative, interdisciplinary research and training are the hallmarks of the Centre.

The Director of the Centre is Professor Robert Plomin and amongst the 200 staff and students, there are over 30 senior scientists with expertise in social and epidemiological psychiatry, quantitative and molecular genetics, and developmental psychopathology. The intersection between nature and nurture spans environmental approaches from epidemiology to family environment and genetic approaches from twin and adoptee studies to molecular genetics.

DESCRIPTION

This post reporting to Leo Schalkwyk will help to give the centre the strength in biostatistics / bioinformatics to make the most of this exciting data, help to build a bridge between statistical genetics and molecular genetics and give added value to a large number of cutting edge research projects. There are opportunities for personal academic development.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal applicant would have a good understanding of functional genomic data and be technically adept at gathering and filtering information for the interpretation of genome-wide analyses, with a talent for collaboration and communicating results clearly to a range of different staff with different levels of expertise. There should be some background in statistics and ideally an interest in psychiatry, psychology or neuroscience. COMPENSATION
