BACKGROUND
An opening is available immediately for an individual to provide bioinformatics support for ongoing research in virus detection and discovery in a large and dynamic laboratory at Columbia University.RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include using novel data analysis software, maintaining a data sharing web portal, and maintenance of research databases containing diverse experimental data. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Java or Perl/BioPerl, familiarity with MySQL and experience writing applications for the web. In addition, applicants must be comfortable working in multiple operating systems (OS X, Windows, Linux) with an emphasis on use and administration of UNIX/Linux environments.REQUIREMENTS
The successful applicant will be interested in solving problems and in working as part of a team on cutting edge scientific research. You will be expected to contribute to multiple projects employing interdisciplinary teams of scientists. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.REQUIREMENTS
This position is strongly interdisciplinary and requires a bachelor's degree in a biological science and at least two years experience in computer support role (a master's degree in bioinformatics is strongly preferred). Good communication skills are a must. The applicant will be required to contribute to publications and research grants and communicate clearly with researchers.LOCALE
