DESCRIPTION
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a ASSOCIATE COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST, to develop tools for detecting natural selection in large datasets of genetic variation. The primary goals are to 1) develop software to carry out statistical tests for natural selection on human genetic variation in a study of 1000 individuals, and 2) extend the codebase of Sweep (http://www.broad.mit.edu/mpg/sweep) to enable the scientific community at large to perform similar tests. Will also work with postdocs and graduate students on the development and implementation of new computational approaches and applications to new datasets.
REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in math, computer science, engineering, or related field; at least two years' experience designing computational methods and tools, including experience with algorithms and applied statistics; strong proficiency in Java, C/C++, or Python; and knowledge of Perl. Coursework in molecular biology a plus. Should have experience with statistical analysis of large-scale datasets, data warehousing, bioinformatics resources and tool creation, and/or theoretical/computational algorithm development. Experience with math and statistical packages (R, MATLAB) needed. Must possess good communication skills, an affinity for problem solving, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.HOW TO APPLY
