BACKGROUND
The mission of SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is to provide scientific, technical, management, administrative, and logistical support to National Institutes of Health (NIH) intramural laboratory research and development related to the causes of and cures for cancer and AIDS. Intramural research is that conducted by Government scientists operating within various units of NIH, principally the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the largest institute of NIH. We also conduct basic and applied research in cancer and AIDS; operate and manage the Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC), the world's only supercomputer devoted exclusively to biomedical research; and conduct large drug and natural product screening programs.
SAIC-Frederick, Inc., is one of four related NCI contracts on-site and serves as the infrastructure support for the entire center. The contract is the largest single research contract awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and it is the department's only Government-owned, contractor-operated facility contract.RESPONSIBILITIES
SAIC Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC and the operations and technical support contractor to the National Cancer Institute-Frederick, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Advanced Biomedical Computing Center. In this position, the successful candidate will perform research and development in the software and algorithms for the analysis of ultrasound (US) and MRI/uPET images, and subsequent duties on the areas of image segmentation, spatial statistical analysis and mathematical modeling. Research will likely include the analysis and segmentation of US images and the elimination of artifacts. Responsibilities will include close interaction with collaborating scientists and their staff across a range of multi-disciplinary programs and including the small Animal Imaging Facility . Duties will also include keeping abreast of latest ultrasound and other image acquisition and image analysis technologies, and participation in oral presentations and preparation of publications.REQUIREMENTS
Doctorate degree from an accredited college/university in a discipline related to biomedical research. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. Experience in C/C++ programming and image analysis; strong abilities in math; working knowledge of optics, statistics and life sciences research; scientific/technical publications and oral presentations; and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.PREFERENCES
We are seeking candidates with knowledge of C/C++ programming and image analysis plus strong abilities in math. In addition, best qualified candidate will have knowledge of optics, statistics and biological sciences, and experience with ITK/VTK and/or Slicer.
