    BACKGROUND

    NYU School of Medicine seeks a Bioinformatician to manage and analyze data generated by high-throughput DNA sequencing instruments (e.g. Solexa, 454, ABI Solid or similar).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities will include setting up an analysis server to take sequence output and conduct downstream bioinformatics analysis including: mapping to reference sequences, genome re-sequencing, microRNA deep-sequencing, expression analysis, chip-seq etc. Curation of sequence data, data quality control, genome scale data analysis and communication with diverse investigators. Design and implement data analysis methodologies through hands-on programming. Evaluate various external software packages (academic and commercial) and integrate them into the production pipeline.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates should have a minimum of a MS in Computer science, Bioinformatics or a related area. Applicants with computing skills and a strong interest in biological problems from a numerate discipline (engineering, physics, mathematics) are also encouraged to apply.

    Candidates should have expertise in Unix/Linux operating systems (including shell scripting and systems administration), familiarity in the use of MySQL databases, and have strong knowledge of programming and scripting languages like Java, C++ and Perl (Bioperl).

    PREFERENCES

    Knowledge of a statistical analysis language such as R is a plus.
