    BACKGROUND

    The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is a non-profit organization focused on developing earlier diagnostics and smarter treatments.
    Translational genomics research employs innovative advances arising from the Human Genome Project and applying them to the development of diagnostics, prognostics and therapies for cancer, neurological disorders, diabetes and other complex diseases.

    Job Title: Post Doctoral Fellow

    Department Description:
    Computational Biology Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is conducting research in genomic signal processing, systems biology, and bioinformatics. We are currently involved in the following activities:

    1. Development of bioinformatics tools such as clustering, classification, and multivariate analysis
    2. Diagnosis and prognosis based on genomic measurements
    3. Synthesis and analysis of gene regulatory networks
    4. Design of network-based optimal intervention strategies
    5. Data management systems such as sequence, SNP, expression DB, and gene ontology
    6. High-performance computational algorithms for large-scale genomic data analysis
    7. Customized application software

    Brief Posting Description:
    Ensures the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team.

    Detailed Description:
    • Determines research direction for the program.
    • Performs research experiments by acquiring relevant data through interaction with research partners.
    • Analyzes and summarizes research data.
    • Writes manuscripts for publication.
    • Assists in writing proposals.
    • Participates in special program coordination (i.e., conferences).
    • Acquires research specimens and maintains compliance with regulatory guidelines.
    • Mentors junior level research team members.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Ph.D. in related field of research.

    Once hired, the applicant will work with biomedical scientists on various projects such as breast cancer, melanoma, pan creatic cancers and multiple myeloma, to develop mathematical models for gene regulatory networks and analytical tools for genomic data.

    Required Skills/Experience:
    • Strong background in statistics and machine learning
    • Experience in analysis of genomic data such as gene expression and a CGH
    • Communication with biologists
    • Strong programming skill in R or Matlab and C/C++ or Java
    • Skill to access various biological databases and knowledge bases
    • Technical writing

    PREFERENCES

    Desired Skills/Experience (not required):
    • Perl or PHP programming for data parsing
    • Comfortable in Mac OSX or Unix/Linux environment
    • Gene regulatory network modeling experience
    • Basic understanding of cell biology and molecular biology
    • Clinical data analysis
    • GUI and/or web application development
