Postdoctoral Fellowship – Computer Scientist / Bioinformatician: Dissecting the Logic of Transcriptional Networks During DevelopmentBACKGROUND
The goal of our research is to dissect the general principles and topology of transcriptional networks during development. We have performed a time-course of ChIP-on-chip experiments, using high-resolution tiling arrays for multiple interconnected TFs. This data is complemented by expression profiling data where the network is perturbed by loss-of-function mutations for each transcription factor. By applying these approaches to a large number of transcription factors we are now at the exciting point of having a global view of the regulatory network driving different aspects of development. The aim of this post-doctoral project is to use our data to assess the systems level properties of the network and to examine its regulatory logic), with the view to making testable predictions. The Furlong laboratory is composed of both, wet lab biologists and computational biologists, generating a creative environment to promote collaborations and test computational predictions. We have a number of ongoing collaborations with computational groups at EMBL, EBI and University of Manchester.REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates should have or be about to obtain a PhD degree in one of the following: Statistical data analysis, Computer science, Engineering, Computational biology, Genomic data analysis. The ideal candidate should have strong background knowledge in computer science and/or bioinformatics and statistical data analysis. Additional experience with biological processes and/or mathematical modeling would be an advantage. At least one accepted first author publication is expected. Working language of the laboratory is English.TERMS
An initial contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on the circumstances at the time of review.
