Opportunity: Research Associate Position in Gene Expression Analysis @ University of Alberta--Edmonton, Canada

BACKGROUND
A Research Associate position is available for up to five years at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada in the area of bioinformatics / gene expression analysis. This position is part of a large collaborative project aimed at characterizing gene expression in pig and cow embryos. The position will involve the development of bioinformatics pipelines and databases for the analysis of gene expression data, DNA and protein sequences, and biological pathways. The candidate will have access to advanced computing facilities and will work closely with wet lab scientists and a biostatistician.
REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD in bioinformatics, biology, biostatistics, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Perl, Java, or Ruby.
- Experience analyzing microarray data using R.
- Experience working with command-line bioinformatics tools and packages such as EMBOSS and BLAST.
- Experience with MySQL and web application development.
- Ability to work in a Linux/Mac OS X environment.
- Ability to work independently and creatively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
