BACKGROUND

A post-doctoral position in bioinformatics is available immediately at Donnelly Centre for Cellular & Biomolecular Research (CCBR) at the University of Toronto. The candidate will work on a funded project titled “Model Organism Interactomes and Human diseases”, in collaboration with other participating investigators including Shoshana Wodak, John Parkinson, Andrew Emili and Jack Greenblatt. The main objective of the project is to develop computational tools to investigate the interaction networks of human and mouse genes that are involved in key cellular processes, and their relation to complex diseases. The project will focus on the chromatin remodeling pathways and related processes associated with various forms of cancer.

Specifically, the candidate will work on the following aims: (i) Gene function prediction: Developing methods to build a repertoire of genes with related function in the chromatin modification machinery of human, mouse and other model organisms. (ii) Prediction of protein interactions and complex in mouse and human, with a focus on human diseases. (iii) Other aspects of computational biology involving protein interactions and diseases.

REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates should be highly innovative and motivated individuals with experience in bioinformatics, with emphasis on function prediction, gene annotation, comparative genomics, and databases. He or she should have strong programming and database skills. The candidate should have excellent communication, presentation skills, and organization skills. The candidate will work closely with all the investigators in the project.

COMMUNITY

The Donnelly CCBR is an interdisciplinary biomedical research centre located in the heart of Toronto’s research district. Our group has close collaborations with other proteomics, genomics and bioinformatics groups located in the centre and elsewhere in the university. Other participating PIs are located in the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.
