    BACKGROUND

    Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR) is in the formative stages of developing a New Era of IT. Recently, NIBR realigned internal IT/informatics services to form a central scientific IT organization and filled a newly defined CIO position. Backed by increased investment in technology/capabilities with the freedom to make innovative technology and services decisions, this rapidly expanding IT organization is now positioning to deliver the systems and services that are critical to the future of NIBR. We are seeking innovative, collaborative and dedicated IT talent to complement our existing teams to assure success as NIBR IT moves further into this exciting new era.

    NIBR has a new role open within the Advanced Computing Services group (ACS). This entity is the user communities primary point of contact for all HPC and Grid computing at NIBR.

    The group is responsible for the design, integration and support of the Scientific Computing environment which currently consists of a 220+ node linux cluster (600+ nodes worldwide), multiple SMP systems and the High Performance Storage infrastructure. In addition, the ACS provides expertise in developing, parallelizing and optimizing scientific applications and user code.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support job submission and resource scheduling environment
    • Develop, support and integrate internal and external applications into a global grid computing environment
    • Support scientific groups as a consultant and solutions architect for mid to enterprise-scale scientific application deployments
    • Mentor junior and mid-level System administrators in and around grid computing
    • Interface with Linux/Unix and Storage engineering teams
    • You must be able to develop, research, and persuasively present technical strategies and options to senior IT managers and scientific customer groups

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a physical science or equivalent experience and a minimum of 4 years related experience.
    • Must have a broad computational background, including knowledge of Unix, Linux and Windows and demonstrated programming experience with Fortran, C, C++, HPC algorithms, programming models, debuggers, and performance tools.
    • Must work effectively with users, understand user needs, and show initiative, tact, and judgment in developing solutions for users.
    Desired Skills:
    • Experience working with scientific applications as a parallel programmer
    • Experience administrating and integrating job schedulars (eg. SGE, LSF)
    • Experience with workflow tools (eg. Pipeline Pilot, Knime or Taverna)
    • Experience with and technical computing tools (eg. R, S-PLUS, MATLAB, OCTAVE)
