The newly created Institute for Genome Sciences is recruiting for a Database Administration Manager. The institute was established to support genomic, basic and translational research to improve human health at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine and beyond. We intend to accomplish this goal by leveraging a state-of-the-art computational facility, the expertise of our domain experts, computational scientists, engineers, and our partnerships with other universities and organizations. The selected candidate will support existing applications and development/implementation of new applications.RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Analyze data requirements for existing and future projects and advise senior management regarding hardware and software needs accordingly.
- Develop RDBMS structures to support Institute of Genome Sciences (IGS) and third party applications.
- Perform maintenance for existing databases.
- Monitor performance and tune databases to ensure optimum operations and to enhance scalability.
- Implement and enforce appropriate data integrity and security mechanisms.
- Develop and document data models.
- Provide technical assistance to other IT staff relevant to RDBMS technology.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field plus three years of experience in Database Administration. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Advanced skills with programming and stored procedures, triggers, views; PL/SQL programming skills a plus.
- Experience with Oracle preferred.
- Knowledge of Relational Database systems.
- Working familiarity of data administration concepts and organization techniques.
- Ability to work individually or as a part of a multifaceted development team.
- Ability to work with individuals of all skill and experience levels.
- Ability to diagnose, debug, and solve complex technical problems.
- Knowledge of operating system environment and related utilities supporting RDMS.
