BACKGROUND
The High Performance Computational Biology Group at Washington University, in cooperation with BECS Technology, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, seeks a systems engineer to maintain, enhance, and test FPGA-based accelerators for biological sequence analysis.RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities will include (1) implementation of new features in existing designs; (2) debugging and tuning VHDL application code to increase system performance; and (3) assisting with deployment of accelerators to biologist end users. The position includes opportunities for research on accelerating biosequence comparison tools such as BLAST.REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should hold at least an M.Sc. degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent work experience. Other requirements include experience with FPGA-based application design and debugging, experience reading and writing VHDL and reading Verilog, and familiarity with a Linux-based development environment.PREFERENCES
Experience with C and C++, the Xilinx family of design tools, and Synplify's Identify tool are desirable. Previous bioinformatics experience is a strong plus.TERMS
This position is available for immediate start and will continue through at least August 2010, contingent on satisfactory performance and the availability of sufficient funds.
