    BACKGROUND

    Asuragen formed from a key group of Ambion scientists and executives to focus efforts on cancer diagnostics. Members of our analytical team come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines—including statistics, bioinformatics, machine learning, computational biology and research methodology. At Asuragen, you will have an opportunity to work with scientists from around the world on cutting edge diagnostic, prognostic and predictive research. The bioinformatics group plays a key role in all aspects of GLP and CLIA service launches, diagnostic kit development and regulatory submissions. As the Manager of Statistics and Bioinformatics, you will have the opportunity to direct team members and personally participate in all facets of molecular diagnostic bioinformatics.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Manager of Statistics and Bioinformatics will take a hands-on approach to lead and mentor a small, but growing group of multi-disciplinary bioinformaticians with backgrounds in statistics, computational biology, network biology and machine learning, supporting the Discovery, Diagnostic and Services divisions within Asuragen.
    • Manage, mentor and provide vision in bioinformatics and statistics to the bioinformatics group.
    • Collaborate and assist with biomarker discovery and validation efforts to facilitate the migration of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive projects from discovery to development and manufacturing as regulatory approved commercial products.
    • Define and prepare study designs and/or research plans for collaborative and/or independent diagnostic and hypothesis testing projects.
    • Review reports and ensure that activities and processes performed are conducted according to requirements using appropriate methods and software.
    • Communicate clearly and authoritatively with customers in the area of molecular diagnostics.
    • Support new Asuragen Service product launches with appropriate analytical methods.
    • Work directly with Asuragen Services group on bioinformatic/data analysis project requests and deliverables.
    • Provide input on new potential Bioinformatic Services that can be packaged and sold to clients.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in Bioinformatics, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or comparable technical and quantitative field.
    • Minimum 3 years in medical/biotechnology industry and/or post-doctoral experience including significant experience with molecular biology
    • Ability to define problems, design studies to resolve problems, and draw valid conclusions
    • Ability to interpret results and analyses to ensure validity of conclusions
    • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
