BACKGROUND
Lonza’s department of Bioinformatics Services in India (BSI) is a new function created in Mumbai-India to provide computational support to existing research activities within the Lonza Corporation. We are seeking talented highly-motivated professionals to join our expanding team that will be working closely with Lonza’s bioinformatics team in Cambridge-UK.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Systems Administrator will be required to provide support such as installations, upgrades, and problem management for Lonza’s development Linux environment. In addition you will participate in the design of new bioinformatics software packages and databases used both in internal research activities and in the provision of services to customers. You need strong Linux Admin and programming skills, good understanding of networking and an interest in bioinformatics.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor the stability and performance of the system

Remotely maintain development and production servers and troubleshoot and diagnose problems

Implement updates and debug issues with Linux software, applications and network communications

Code, develop and maintain software solutions for bioinformatics team. Design suitable interfaces for tools and pipeline software modules into stand-alone packages.

Help on the implementation of database API and web interfaces

Provide computing support to bioinformatics team in the UK

REQUIREMENTS:

BSc in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years Linux support/sys admin and programming demonstrable experience, preferably in a similar post in the industry.

Competency in Shell scripting.

Strong programming skills, primarily in C++ and Perl. Knowledge in Java would be advantageous.

Experience in virtualised systems, particularly VMware will be favourably considered.

Notions in bioinformatics and experience with relational databases (mySQL, etc.), particularly in the implementation of database interfaces would be an advantage.

A team player, able to share knowledge with others and actively participate in scientific and technical discussions with other members of the BSI team and other departments within the Lonza Corporation. Able to work independently to an established plan, prioritise and work to tight deadlines. Essential to have good communication skills and a problem-solving attitude.
