BACKGROUND
Lonza’s department of Bioinformatics Services in India (BSI) is a new function created in Mumbai-India to provide computational support to existing research activities within the Lonza Corporation. We are seeking talented highly-motivated professionals to join our expanding team that will be working closely with Lonza’s bioinformatics team in Cambridge-UK.RESPONSIBILITIES
The Systems Administrator will be required to provide support such as installations, upgrades, and problem management for Lonza’s development Linux environment. In addition you will participate in the design of new bioinformatics software packages and databases used both in internal research activities and in the provision of services to customers. You need strong Linux Admin and programming skills, good understanding of networking and an interest in bioinformatics.
You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the databases supporting the departmental research. You will participate in the design and implementation of relational databases and their interfaces as well as in data collection, both manual and automated, from external and internal resources. In addition you will participate in the design of new bioinformatics software packages and databases interfaces used both in internal research activities and in the provision of services to customers.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and maintenance of relational databases
- Text mining. Collection and curation of data sets and data annotation
- Implementation of database API and web interfaces
- Design and maintenance of software tools and packages.
- Provide computing support to bioinformatics team in the UK
REQUIREMENTS
- BSc/PhD in life or computer sciences, with 3+ years professional experience in computation or bioinformatics, preferably in an industry environment.
- Proven experience working with relational databases (such as mySQL or other commercial solutions) and exposure to handling large data sets.
- Strong Perl scripting skills.
- Familiarity with text mining is desirable.
- Previous experience in the use and mining of biological databases.
- Notions on protein structure and/or antibodies will be favourably considered
- Knowledge in C++ as well as statistical analysis would be an advantage.
