    "'This project is important because it means Canadians are able to work on a world-class level at an educational institution, which has never happened in this country,' said Peter Poole, a researcher at Western in London, Ont. Mr. Poole, along with Allan MacIsaac, who both work in Western's department of applied mathematics, created the supercomputer with $1.5-million last summer....But the initial project, which is a supercomputer operating on more than 70 Compaq Alpha servers and running on the Linux operating system, will soon be eclipsed by a new project that involves five southern Ontario universities. The joint project will see the creation of one of the world's most powerful supercomputers....The project will require up to $30-million in funding, $22-million of which will come from the federal and Ontario governments."
