POSITION: Research Associate – BioinformaticsRESPONSIBILITIES
The Bioinformatics Core Facility at the University of Utah, jointly managed by the University of Utah Health Science Center and the Huntsman Cancer Institute, seeks a Bioinformatics Data Analyst / Programmer to join its staff. This Research Associate will assist researchers with the design of next-generation sequencing and microarray experiments, analyze and interpret data from those experiments, and evaluate or create new data analysis and data management tools. http://bioserver.hci.utah.edu
Essential Functions:
- Analyze data from genomic experiments, including gene expression microarrays, genomic tiling arrays, and next-generation sequencing experiments. Format analysis results for presentation or publication.
- Assist researchers with the design of microarray and next-generation sequencing experiments, including choice of genomic technologies and power analysis.
- Instruct personnel in collaborating labs on analysis methods.
- Evaluate or create new data analysis and data management tools.
REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, or related field.
- 1 or more years of relevant experience in genomic data analysis (including microarray and sequence data analysis).
- Familiarity with statistics, bioinformatics tools, and molecular biology.
- Software development experience in languages such as Java, Python, C++, Perl, SQL, and R.
- Familiarity with public genome and gene expression databases.
- Familiarity with genomic experiment design principles.
- Familiarity with relational database design principles.
