BACKGROUND
Monsanto, an Ag industry leader creating scientific breakthroughs around the world, is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist in St. Louis, MO, whose main responsibility will be to support the Worldwide Monsanto Vegetable Division in the areas of comparative genomics, comparative mapping, and the integration of genetic and physical maps.RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be expected to perform data analysis and information curation. The candidate will also play a central role in linking annotated draft genomes with genetic maps and related information in multiple vegetable crops. It is expected that the candidate will also contribute to the overall development in the bioinformatics group as well as users in the vegetable divisionREQUIREMENTS
- Candidates for this position must be knowledgeable and skillful in Perl programming (Java or C a plus).
- UNIX experience is required, as well as Relational Database design and access methods.
- Expert use of biological sequence databases is required, as well as in-depth knowledge of bioinformatic analysis at a genome-level scale.
- Preference will be given to candidates with significant previous experience in comparative genomics and integration of genetic and physical data.
- Candidates must have significant scientific programming in one or more of the following areas: sequence analysis, gene and marker discovery, comparative and functional bioinformatics.
- PhD, or MS or equivalent in Biology, Bioinformatics, or Computer Science or other related disciplines.
- Experience in a research, agricultural, biotech or drug discovery environment specializing in high throughput genomics is highly desirable.
