BACKGROUND
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is seeking postdoc candidates in methodology development and annotation of DNA sequence data from high throughput, next-generation sequencing machines (e.g. Roche/454, Illumina/Solexa, ABI SOLiD).
About the Division of Biomedical Statics and Informatics (BSI)
The Division of Biomedical Statics and Informatics includes more than 280 experts in biostatics, bioinformatics, and clinical informatics. Our scientists work collaboratively with basic and clinical researcher, providing analytical and interpretative expertise to enable or validate discoveries with high impact on patient care. BSI also leads the development of statistical and informatics methodologies to provide novel approaches to mine and analyze biomedical data.RESPONSIBILITIES
The postdoc is expected to lead the development of high-performance sequence data analysis pipeline, collaborate with sequencing core labs, experimental collaborators and colleagues at sequencing machine manufacturing companies. The examples of research areas are: rare mutation detection in somatic cancer samples, transcriptome profiling using 3'-tag sequencing and RNA-SEQ, and de novo assembly.REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, or related fields, having a solid background in developing bioinformatics tools, and with enough knowledge of molecular genetics. Experience with analysis of next generation sequencing data (454, Solexa, SOLiD) is a plus. Candidates must have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.HOW TO APPLY
