    RESPONSIBILITIES

Constella Group/SRA International has an exciting opportunity in our Durham, NC office for a Research Bioinformaticist. This person will be a data analyst specializing in computational methods to support biological research. The position entails programming using R (and R packages such as Bioconductor), Perl, and C to analyze data from high throughput experiments in support of client needs.

    REQUIREMENTS

Skills should include knowledge of biology and statistical programming. A familiarity with genomics, proteomics, or metabolomics data and a biological background are preferred. Experience analyzing genome-wide association studies or expression analysis studies is a plus. The bioinformaticist will consult with toxicologists, biochemists, and molecular biologists on experimental design, provide data analyses and interpretations, and assist in preparation of proposals and reports. Co-authorship of scientific publications is expected.

    Skills:
Data analysis experience, preferably with genomics data, and preferably using advanced statistical techniques. Must have experience with Perl. It is absolutely essential that candidates have written and spoken communication skills that enable consultation with clients. Working with clients is an extremely important part of this position. Enough knowledge of genetics and current concepts in genomics research to effectively communicate with genomics researchers. Desire to work collaboratively. Ability to detect anomalies in data (requires both a focus on detail that results in observation of anomalous patterns and a big-picture view that allows understanding of what patterns are anomalous).

    Education:
Masters Degree / Ph.D preferred, preferably in bioinformatics or related field such as biostatistics, molecular biology, statistics or computer science.
