    BACKGROUND

    SRA’s Global Health Sector is an international health services organization working across government and commercial markets, composed of three Strategic Business Units. These units provide professional services in a variety of areas, including drug development/clinical research (CRO); domestic public health services: laboratory sciences, epidemiology, health communications, disease surveillance, peer review, and information technology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are currently seeking a Software Engineer to join our team. This Software Engineer is a high visibility position working with a group of biostatisticians, who are supporting and developing applications for the analysis of high throughput data. This Software Engineer will support the development of an application analysis tool-kit to provide support for the analysis of microarray data. These tools may include data mining techniques, statistical algorithm implementation and other high throughput analysis techniques. Application development will include tools/application and database development using Visual Basic, R, and C/C++. This Software Engineer will work closely with NCI scientists and analyst. Position is based in Rockville, MD.

    Additional responsibilities include:
    • Statistical Bioinformatics Software Development.
    • Collaborating with investigators in the development of software that implements new methodology for the analysis of gene expression data.
    • Interacting with a worldwide community of investigators using the software to design and analyze laboratory and clinical studies.
    • Requires an interest in genomics and biomedicine; interest in the development of innovative software that efficiently implements state-of-the-art methods and is useable by scientists; serious programming skills with willingness to program in R and VBA; and education in biostatistics.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required Skills and Experience:
    • Requires a Bachelors degree (preferably in Mathematics or Statistics) and 3 - 5 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Requires R statistical programming experience
    • Candidates should be self-motivated and must be able to work independently with little supervision
    • Requires good oral and written communications skills
    • The ideal candidate would have had some training/background in mathematics/statistics
