BACKGROUND

SAIC-Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC, is the Operations and Technical Support (OTS) Contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick (NCI-Frederick). It is the prime contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick, one of 38 Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) and the only such national laboratory devoted exclusively to biomedical research.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking an experienced Director who will be responsible for operating and overseeing the Sequencing Facility for the Genetics and Genomics Supergroup (G&GSG) of the Advanced Technology Program at SAIC-Frederick. Duties will include operating and programming of robotic/automated systems for next generation sequencing services and integration of these core services with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and high capacity computational environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to biomedical research (molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics) or related field, or six (6) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.

In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of seven (7) years of competent, innovative research in a related field (molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics) is required. Demonstrated experience in high throughput DNA sequencing applications and technology. Proficient in Excel, Word and Power Point. Ability to independently design and perform experiments, solve assay or production problems.

PREFERENCES

Experience with Illumina (Solexa), Roche (454) and Applied Biosystems sequencers operation and maintenance highly desired. Proficiency in statistical analysis. Customer support experience highly desirable. Excellent analytical, problem solving skills. Demonstrated training skills.
