    Opportunity: Computer Programmer @ The Commonwealth Medical College--Scranton, PA (US)

    BACKGROUND

    The position offers an opportunity to work on a team project that has broad implications for biomedical research and to gain the visibility associated with implementation of a highly used resource.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The computer programmer will develop software for the analysis of biological databases and maintain software to support computational biology research laboratories. Specific duties include the implementation of open source statistical analysis software for the purpose of data mining biomedical annotation databases. A web presentation layer will be created for an interface with the scientific community

    REQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications for the position include a B.S. or M.S. level degree or equivalent experience in computer science. Completion of introductory level courses in biology, chemistry, and statistics is an advantage. Programming languages to be used include Java, SQL, Perl or Python, R, and C. The operating system platforms are Windows 98/NT/2000/XP, UNIX, and Linux.

    LOCALE

    The position is with The Commonwealth Medical College, the nation’s newest medical college, located in Scranton Pennsylvania.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is competitive for an academic setting. There are excellent healthcare and retirement plans.
