    BACKGROUND

A position in GosNIIgenetica, Russia for an early-state researcher (PhD student level) is opened in the field of bioinformatics application in to farmacogenomics of multiple sclerosis in GosNIIgenetika, Moscow, Russia. http://bioinform.genetika.ru. The position is open and supported within FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network UEPHA-MS http://www.reem.es/uepha-ms.htm and implies cooperation with biomedical research centers in several European countries and integration of data from several sources.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

Multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments behave as typical complex treats with multiple genes and epistatic gene interactions leading to either response or lack thereof. The UEPHA-MS project implies coordinated efforts of several European research and clinical centers for identification of genes involved in MS development and monitoring of MS development at molecular level. The responsibility of Moscow group is to integrate experimental data (genotyping, transcriptomics, etc.) into a single information system and to estimate the allele interaction of several candidate genes, identifying combination of an increased risk of MS development. Also, the response to several treatment procedures for different allele patterns is going to be evaluated.

    REQUIREMENTS

THE APPLICANT MUST BE A CITIZEN OF ONE OF THE EU-27 MEMBER STATES WITH Ms.S or EQUIVALENT OBTAINED NO MORE THAN 4 YEARS AGO. A background in bioinformatics and/or or in data mining is needed. The position implies working with experimental data from variable sources, so some experience in operation with biological data is needed. Perl (Ruby, etc.) and SQL skills are required.

    PREFERENCES

Some understanding of basics of data mining, Bayesian methods and optimization algorithms as well as Matlab or R skills is highly appreciated. Experience in statistics is also of advantage. Interest to biology and medicine is a preference. An understanding of basic molecular biology, immunology and general physiology is an advantage.
