Opportunity: Postdoc Researcher or PhD student: `BIOINFORMATICS of Epitope Profiles' @ U Rostock--Baltic Coast, Germany
Submitted by Georg Fuellen; posted on Wednesday, February 11, 2009

    BACKGROUND

A 1-year postdoctoral position or a two-year PhD student position is available in the Medical Bioinformatics group at the University of Rostock in northeastern Germany.

In a project funded by the local state government (Exzellenzförderprogramm Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), machine learning will be applied to molecular data to profile the epitopes (immune system) of patients and healthy subjects, and to optimize peptide chips for the measurement of epitope data.

    REQUIREMENTS

We search for an enthusiastic researcher with an interest in applying in-silico analyses in a exciting field, with implications in cancer research and vaccination strategies.

Applicants should either hold a doctorate or a diploma/masters degree (or equivalent) in the life sciences or in computer science, physics, chemistry, mathematics or a related area. They should have previous experience in data analysis and programming.

A keen interest in science is more important than previous experience in the field, although experience with (high-throughput) biological data such as microarrays, with biological databases and with comparative / evolutionary analysis is considered a plus.

    LOCALE

In the summer, Rostock and the Baltic Coast is the number one vacation area in Germany, with a very pleasant climate and a wide variety of recreational opportunities.

    HOW TO APPLY

Please email applications to Georg Fuellen (bioinfo-jobs[at]med.uni-rostock.de) (one PDF file, consisting of CV, statement of research interests and qualifications).

Unfortunately, application expenses cannot be reimbursed. Women are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with disabilities will be preferred if they possess equal qualifications.
