Opportunity: Pre/post-doctoral research fellowship, COMP BIOLOGY / modelling & data analysis @ BOKU--Vienna, Austria
Submitted by D Kreil; posted on Tuesday, March 03, 2009

    Submitter

    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a highly motivated young scientist or post-graduate student with a strong interest in data analysis. The new junior group-member will be immersed in a truly interdisciplinary project from day one, studying non-genetic sources of individuality (Why are identical twins different? Why do some respond to treatment, others not?).

    REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates are expected to have a university degree in a technical or scientific discipline. Research in this field requires good statistical and software engineering skills. Candidates must hence be able to demonstrate previous coding experience (e.g., R, MatLab, C/C++, Java, Perl, Bash, ...). Knowledge of probabilistic modelling is a plus. Experience with bioinformatics data analysis is an advantage. The interdisciplinary nature of the group's work (http://www.biotec.boku.ac.at/7033.html?L=1) means that good communication skills in English are essential (working knowledge of German a plus). A strong interest in collaboration with experimental scientists is essential, and own experience in a laboratory a plus.

    TERMS

The position is available immediately and has an initial tenure of two years, with extensions possible. It is possible to pursue a PhD through this research fellowship.

    COMPENSATION

Remuneration is internationally competitive and follows the national standard scale for researchers.

    HOW TO APPLY

Applications should be addressed to David Kreil (http://www.biotec.boku.ac.at/bimems.html?L=1#c13965). Please include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a list of previous research and publications. Two reference letters should be sent to us directly. We look forward to receiving your application by 15 March 2009. Late applications may be considered until the position has been filled. Please feel free to contact us (http://www.biotec.boku.ac.at/bicontact.html?L=1) if you have any questions.
