    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are currently seeking postdoctoral researchers to work in the Hibbs group. Researchers will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects ongoing in our lab. Our group develops data mining, machine learning, and visualization approaches that utilize high-throughput, whole genome scale data to create high quality predictions of protein roles, pathways, and regulation. Through collaborative projects, we strive to evaluate and refine our predictions using experimental efforts. For more information about the group, see http://cbfg.jax.org

    REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have a PhD (or other terminal degree) in either a quantitative field (e.g. computer science, statistics, applied math) or in the biological sciences with a quantitative/computational background. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to solving biological problems, however, a background in biology is not strictly required. Successful applicants must have good communication and scientific programming skills. Experience with java, c/c++, ruby, perl, and/or R is recommended. Prior experience in the analysis or visualization of large data sets is desirable. Our work is highly interdisciplinary, and applicants must demonstrate a desire to build and maintain strong collaborations.

    LOCALE

The Jackson Laboratory (http://www.jax.org) is located in Bar Harbor, Maine, and is adjacent to Acadia National Park. Millions of people visit Acadia each year to enjoy camping, hiking, cycling, and the first rays of sunlight to fall on the US each morning at the top of Cadillac Mountain. JAX is an NCI designated Cancer Center, and is an NIGMS systems biology center of excellence. JAX is consistently ranked as one of the best places in the nation for scientists to work. In 2009, JAX was ranked the #2 best place to work for postdoctoral researchers by The Scientist magazine.

    COMPENSATION

Salary is determined by the NIH mandated pay scale. The Jackson Laboratory offers a generous benefits package including excellent health care, a free on-site gym, and retirement investment.

    HOW TO APPLY

E-mail CV and statement of research interests to matt.hibbs[at]jax.org or apply online at http://www.jax.org/postdoc
