    We are currently searching for an experienced Sr. Bioinformatics Analyst to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with Lockheed Martin and it is on-site at the NIH in Bethesda/Rockville, MD.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The ideal candidate with bioinformatics expertise will work closely with NIH scientists to provide customized solutions for a broad variety of biological experiments in the subject areas of immunology and infectious diseases. He/she will assist with interpreting data generated by highly parallel detection systems used in genomics and proteomics and will work with technologies for genomics investigations such as transcriptome and micro-RNA profiling, ChIP-chip and novel array applications.

    The duties for this position involve custom microarray design, data management, statistical analysis for QC/QA as well as mining and statistical modeling, gene annotation mining. There is an emphasis on working with current structures and workflows and helping develop and expand them – but also on day-to-day processing and analysis for client projects.

    Overview:
    The Branch operates similarly to a core facility but works closely with investigators in the intramural division. The focus is on microarray applications. Work with investigators in all stages of the process including experiment design, target preparation, hybridizations, statistical analysis, genomic and biological interpretation will be required. Must be comfortable working with a small group doing bench work as well as bioinformatics.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Advanced degree in bioinformatics or equivalent with 5+ years of hands-on experience in life science data and genomics.
    • Knowledge of genomic database resources at NCBI, EMBL strongly preferred.
    • Skill at computer programming, data processing, microarray analysis and communication with both biologist and bioinformaticists. Ability to interpret biological questions.
    • Ability to interact with clients to design experiments and interpret data in a genomics context.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
    • Attention to detail, time management skills, ability to work independently with a high level of personal and professional drive and initiative required, ability to manage time between multiple concurrent projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to solve biologically-relevant problems requiring novel applications of exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis or literature mining.
    • Demonstrated experience working with large data: 100+ arrays.
