RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to work as a data manager in the PRIDE team. The position involves interaction with external data producers, validation and integration of large scale proteomics data sets into the PRIDE database, and the development of both internal and public tools to streamline this task.

The EBI is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community, with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. The PRIDE Proteomics Identifications Database, part of the EBI Proteomics Services Team, captures large scale proteomics data from the scientific community. PRIDE is currently in a rapid growth phase, with single data submissions sometimes comprising tens of thousands of mass spectra.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal applicant should have an interdisciplinary university degree or comparable practical experience in computer science and biology/chemistry. Knowledge in Java and relational databases is required, experience in web application development, proteomics, and large scale biological data management would be an advantage.

The post holder should be able to work independently and interact well within a team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as a working knowledge of English are essential.

TERMS

An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
