RESPONSIBILITIES:
Our role: Lead a highly technical team of Linux, Unix, Windows, HPC and storage System Administrators and Engineers. Ensure high availability of systems and responsiveness to our customer base of 4,500 scientists and research personnel. Your team will manage several hundred physical servers, hundreds of additional virtual servers, and storage volumes approaching the petabyte scale.
REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires strong SysAdmin skills as well as the ability to lead a highly capable team of 8-15 SysAdmins and engineers. BS degree in a related field, advanced degree preferred.
Minimum requirements: This position will lead the Advanced Computing Systems (ACS) group within NITAS, reporting to the Head of U.S. Research Computing Platforms. This role will interface with the IS lead managers through the worldwide NITAS environment, key scientists and researchers, client services heads and senior IT leadership. Key requirements include excellent written and verbal communication. The successful candidate will have proven leadership and technical skills in a sophisticated IT infrastructure organization. The ACS team at Novartis supports a rapidly growing storage infrastructure of over half a petabyte in size that includes virtualized storage, replication and data de-duplication. Knowledge of these technologies is required, as is the ability to demonstrate a track record of process and technology improvements in the area of storage management.
The infrastructure environment houses Linux (RHEL) and Windows servers, both physical and virtualized, and the server environment continues to grow rapidly. The ability to manage numerous ongoing projects, while still assigning resources to critical immediate needs, is essential for success in this role. Proven experience leading a successful multidisciplinary team is also a key requirement.
The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring reporting team members, and he/she will be able to demonstrate how they have aligned team strengths, within a group of technically minded professionals, to achieve business goals.
Like many IT groups, the ACS will benefit from streamline processes, and we are looking for the right Manager who can balance process management, innovation, and corporate governance models. Candidates will have previous detailed experience with vendor management at their prior positions; particularly in the area of establishing vendor partnerships that have improved their environments in a cost effective manner.
