    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1KP is an international consortium that will generate transcript sequences for 1000 plant species over the next two years. We wish to hire a computer analyst to manage the flow of information, and to analyze the expected one Terabase of sequence data, in partnership with experts in evolutionary biology, systematics, and plant sciences.

    Candidates should be prepared to not only use but also improve on relatively sophisticated mathematical software. Familiarity with massively parallel computing is another positive. Because this is a large international collaboration, we require team players who work well with others. Given the complex nature of such projects, certain tasks will fall between the proverbial cracks, and when that happens, we expect this individual to accept the responsibility for completing these tasks.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates must have at least a Masters degree in computational biology or bioinformatics or any similar field that provides experience in analyzing large scale DNA sequence information. We intend to push the state of the art.

    Skills:
    • Ability to work within an international team
    • Project Management skills and experience would be considered a great asset
    • Ability to manage large amounts of data

    PREFERENCES

    • Familiarity with Perl, Java, C++ and general programming languages are preferable
    • Familiarity with massively parallel computing
    • Canadian citizens and permanent residents are preferred.
