Dow AgroSciences Discovery R&D is looking for an experienced bioinformatician to work within the Information Technology and Management group. The successful candidate will interact closely with other bioinformatics personnel as well as with bench scientists in the design of experiments to answer relevant biological questions, to develop analytical strategies, to interpret the data generated and to define research approaches. The individual will also deliver analysis results to the teams in usable formats. The individual will contribute to bioinformatics process and database optimization and standardization, and work to define tool requirements.
The successful candidate will provide leadership in key areas such as database development/integration, NextGen sequencing, network analysis and transcriptome and proteome assembly and annotation. They will work with and lead project teams to help them define their bioinformatics needs and then deliver on those needs. The candidate is expected to drive strategic growth within Dow AgroSciences R&D through the use of bioinformatics analysis to create novel agricultural biotech products.REQUIREMENTS
- Masters or Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or a related field is required.
- Minimum of five years of industrial experience is required.
- Expertise in Perl programming (Java, C, C++ is a plus) and relational database (Oracle, MySQL, Postgres) design and access is required.
- UNIX/Linux experience is required.
- In depth knowledge of biological sequence databases and the ability to perform genome wide bioinformatic analysis is essential.
- Expert knowledge of workflow management and analysis tools such as Pipeline Pilot/Spotfire and Matlab/R is expected.
- Experience with Regulatory and/or Metabolic Networks is a plus.
- Preference will be given to candidates with significant experience in 454/Illumina/Solid sequencing analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and effective writing skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated leadership skills are essential for success.
