BACKGROUND

A postdoc and a PhD position in bioinformatics are immediately available at the Institute for Bioinformatics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU), Linz, Austria.

The bioinformatics group's research interests are in machine learning and statistical approaches to bioinformatics. Current topics are the preprocessing and analysis of microarray data (transcriptome and genotyping by SNPs and CNVs), gene selection, sequence analysis and motif extraction, analyzing next generation sequencing data, and more.

TERMS

The positions are for a 4 year period and the PhD position includes teaching responsibilities (in English).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful postdoc candidate is expected to develop new and to improve existing microarray data analysis methods.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal PhD applicant will have a Master's or Diploma's degree and the postdoc applicant a PhD degree both with a background in machine learning, data mining, statistics as well as in a life science discipline. Programming skills in a high-level language are required and knowledge of R and bioconductor are very helpful.

LOCALE

Linz, the European Capital of Culture, is a nice place in the beautiful alpine uplands between Salzburg and Vienna. The JKU Linz supplies a perfect environment for bioinformatics research with its strong biophysics and biochemical groups and the support from upper Austria government via its life science initiative.

SALARY & COMPENSATION
