    Opportunity: Programmer/Scientist for the Micro-Manager project @ Vale lab, UCSF--San Francisco, CA (US)

    BACKGROUND

    Micro-Manager is an open-source software package for microscope control. Micro-Manager enables scientists to perform basic and advanced image acquisition tasks (snapshots, multi-wavelength images, video, time-series, 3D imaging) and has a well-designed user interface that allows extension of the software and custom applications. Micro-Manager serves hundreds of laboratories around the world and its popularity is growing rapidly. This success is fueled by close interactions between software engineers and scientists at the UCSF Mission Bay campus in San Francisco.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Strategic decision making for management of the project and the software architecture
    • Software for new imaging applications
    • Hardware device adapters
    • Graphical user interface
    • Scripting interfaces
    • Code and documentation maintenance
    • Close collaboration with scientists and hardware manufacturers
    • Customer support for scientists at UCSF and around the world

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to design and execute large software projects
    • Fluency in Java and C++
    • Experience with hardware programming
    • Strong interest in biological imaging and scientific research
    • Affinity for open source programming projects
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Enthusiasm for efficient problem solving and team effort

    TERMS

    This position is for a period of 3 years.

    LOCALE

    University of California, San Francisco, Mission Bay Campus, GenenTech Hall.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary: Commensurate with experience. UCSF provides a highly competitive benefits package.
