RESPONSIBILITIES
At J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), teams of scientists, engineers, and bioinformatics professionals are making some of the most exciting scientific discoveries in the world. JCVI is currently recruiting a post-doctoral fellow to join the Informatics team. The successful candidate will be applying and/or developing machine learning techniques for the classification of genomic sequences, and publishing the results in peer reviewed journals. The candidate will contribute to the development of an open source toolbox for assigning taxonomy to metagenomic data. This effort will include designing a computational back-end running on distributed computational resources such as NSF TeraGrid as well as a Web front-end based on the Galaxy bioinformatics workbench.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with relevant experience in high dimensional data analysis through machine learning methods such as support vector machines, logistic regression, self-organizing maps and various clustering techniques. Good practical knowledge of programming in Python and C++ under Linux is required. Other preferred skills include working knowledge of statistical theory and hypothesis testing, and development of distributed pipelines in PBS/Globus framework.HOW TO APPLY
