    RESPONSIBILITIES

    J. Craig Venter Institute ("JCVI"), a dynamic non-profit scientific research organization is currently seeking a Software Engineer to join the Informatics team.

    The Software Engineer is responsible for the analysis, development of user interfaces and visualization for applications and scientific data in support of the Venter Institute’s scientific mission. This position will design, implement and maintain n-tiered applications supporting scientific research and data visualization using Web and J2EE technology. Develops prototypes, mock-ups, storyboards, and provides HCI design support for various scientific applications. Works cooperatively with other staff to achieve Venter Institute's research goals.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Successful candidates will possess a BS or MS in computer science or software engineering or equivalent; 3 + years of Java software development experience in a complex, multi-developer environment; 2+ years experience in GUI development and data visualization in web or scientific applications using HTML, CSS, AJAX, JSP, Swing and Applets. The candidate will be able to collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team, and work independently.
