    Opportunity: Web Application Developer @ Vanderbilt University--Nashville, TN (US)

    BACKGROUND

    The Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) and the Advanced Computing Center for Research and Education (ACCRE) at Vanderbilt is developing web application to administer the REDDNet L-store: (http://lstore.org/pwiki/pmwiki/phpn=REDDnet.Infrastructure) system. This system will help in storing and sharing large volumes of scientific data across geographically separated locations. L-Store is conceptually designed as a complete virtual file system. Designing a file system distributed over the WAN necessitates a rethinking of the traditional file system components and the methods for administering such a system.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Developing and maintaining web application to administer new hardware.
    • Working with business analysts and domain matter experts to understand informational requirements.
    • Developing Ruby on Rails applications.
    • Communicating data requirements to the development team and other stakeholders.

    REQUIREMENTS

    This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or equivalent, and a minimum of 36 months relevant experience. Experience may be substituted for education: basic qualification requirement on a 2:1 basis (2 years of experience for each year of education required, but not attained)

    PREFERENCES

    • 36 months as a web application developer.
    • Full project life-cycle experience (from requirements gathering to testing).
    • An understanding of administrative interface design.
    • Experience working in a UNIX/Linux environment.
    • An understanding/experience of working within an interactive development environment.
    • Able to work independently and interact well within a team environment.
    • Informatics experience in the medical or other life sciences industries.
    • Experience working in an Agile development process.
    • Experience with object oriented web application development languages such as - Ruby on Rails and PHP.
    • Experience with C/C++/C#

    TERMS

    This is a full-time positions (40 hours per week). Shift hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm; Monday thru Friday. Salary is dependent upon years of education and experience. Background screens will be performed and must be approved prior to employment. Please be prepared to provide required information.
