    BACKGROUND

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Designs, implements and maintains n-tiered applications supporting scientific research and data visualization using Web technologies and J2EE technology.
    • Develops prototypes, mock-ups, storyboards, and provides HCI (Human-Computer interaction) design support for various scientific applications.
    • Works cooperatively with other staff to achieve Venter Institute's research goals.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • BS or MS in computer science or software engineering or equivalent.
    • 3+ years experience in GUI development and data visualization in web or scientific applications using HTML, CSS, AJAX, Flash and JSP.
    • 1+ years of Java software development experience in a complex, multi-developer environment.
    • Ability to collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team, and work independently.

    PREFERENCES

    • Bioinformatics experience or significant experience in other complex scientific domain.
    • Experience with Asynchronous and Service Oriented Architectures/Web Services
    Swing, Applets, Flash, XML, SQL, Perl-cgi, C/C++.
    • Web Server or J2EE Application Server experience, specifically Tomcat or JBoss
    Development in mixed environment of Windows and Linux.
