SUMMARY
The Informatics department at the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (formerly known as the Miami Institute for Human Genomics) has exciting job opportunities in Bioinformatics. We require two highly motivated Bioinformatics Officers to join the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics which is part of the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami. The successful candidates will extend next generation sequencing analysis capability and Bioinformatics analyses.RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidates must have experience in analyzing next generation sequence data. Applicants must be able to develop, maintain and run pipelines to perform image analysis, base calling, sequencing assembly, SNP verification analysis and down stream annotations. The positions will be working with the Informatics team to provide support for research and development in Bioinformatics in order to support large scale institute wide research projects and the Institute’s Sequencing Cores and The Center for Genomic Technologies. The Institute is at the forefront of genomics research seeking to identify variation in the genes and gene networks responsible for health and disease.REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must have demonstrated working experience in analyzing Next Generation Sequencing Data using two or more of the following platform technologies (Illumina/Solexa Genome Analyzer, ABI SOLID, Roche 454).
- Applicants should have 3+ years of experience in Bioinformatics and data analysis, relevant MS and/or PhD degrees with a proven track record in providing solutions in Genomics by using Bioinformatics.
- Applicants should have experience with cluster computing, knowledge of resource management and job scheduling.
- He or she should have wide variety of demonstrated programming and scripting skills such as PERL, Java, Shell scripting and the utilization of Relational Database Management Systems such as MySQL.
- Applicants must have the ability to work in a fast moving interdisciplinary team environment as well as the ability to discuss issues and provide solutions to scientists with different backgrounds.
- The ideal applicant should have working experience in at least four of the following: (1) analysis of GWAS data; (2) micro-array gene expression; (3) gene prioritization and SNP, gene, pathway annotation; (4) developing material for Bioinformatics tutorials, and training course; (5) micro-RNA target prediction; (6) development, knowledge and use of integrated and complex, Bioinformatics packages/workflows
