BACKGROUND
The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community, with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. The IntAct molecular interaction database, part of the EBI Proteomics Services Team, captures molecular interaction data from the scientific literature, direct data depositions, and increasingly through data exchange with international partner organisations.

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician to work as a data manager in the IntAct team. The position involves interaction with external data producers, validation and integration of large scale interaction data sets into the IntAct database, and the development of both internal and public tools to streamline this task.REQUIREMENTS
The ideal data manager will have an interdisciplinary university degree or comparable practical experience in computer science and biology/chemistry. Knowledge in Java and relational databases is required, experience in web application development, molecular interactions, and large scale biological data management would be an advantage.PREFERENCES
The post holder should be able to work independently and interact well within a team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as a working knowledge of English are essential.TERMS
An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
Note that special visa requirements apply to employees from non EU countries working at EMBL-EBI in the UK. The period of work does not qualify for the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme.LOCALE
