Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Scientist @ Envoy Therapeutics--Jupiter, FL (US)
Submitted by Susan Becker; posted on Thursday, September 17, 2009

    BACKGROUND

Here is your opportunity to impact the exciting growth of a newly formed, venture-backed biopharmaceutical company in Jupiter, Florida. With world-class scientific founders including a Nobel Laureate and exclusive rights to a powerful target discovery technology, Envoy Therapeutics is well-positioned to make rapid progress toward bringing new medicines for neurological and psychiatric diseases to the clinic, as well as providing you with an exciting career.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

As a key member of our start-up team, you will have the opportunity to build the bioinformatics function and play a pivotal role in helping to support our drug discovery efforts. Working with the company's scientific team, we'll rely on you to develop systems for analyzing and comparing cell-type-specific gene expression data, including developing criteria and algorithms for drug target prioritization, as well as develop systems to review data generated by high-throughput compound screening projects. Your key responsibility will be to initiate, design and manage all bioinformatics efforts aimed at analyzing, more precisely than ever before, the assortment and levels of messenger RNA and proteins in medically relevant cell types and obtain high resolution insights into the molecular pathways involved in safety and efficacy.

    REQUIREMENTS

This challenge requires a motivated and proactive bioinformatics scientist with an MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or a related field, 2-5 years of related experience in analyzing large scale data sets and specific experience formulating innovative bioinformatics strategies in support of biological target discovery and selection, compound screening and pre-clinical development. Extensive knowledge of public domain data sources is essential, as is experience with common bioinformatics tools, fluency in scripting languages such a Perl, Python or Ruby, fluency in another high-level language such as C#, Java or C++ and 2 years of experience in Oracle data base systems, including SQL and PL/SQL. Experience in text data mining, analysis of express data sets and data visualization are also a must while the demonstrated ability to write custom plug-ins for existing commercial products would be a plus. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with the ability to work as part of a lean, flexible team in a fast-paced environment.

    SALARY & COMPENSATION

Join us and share our passion for creating and exploiting a completely new and unique drug discovery engine. As a member of our team you'll benefit from our collaborative environment, a very competitive salary, an equity grant and an evolving benefits package. You'll also enjoy living in sunny Florida where the cost of living is low, but the quality of life is high.
