    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to join the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami. The successful candidate will work with research teams to extend capabilities in next generation data analysis and Bioinformatics to help improve understanding of genetic variation human in health and disease.

    The applicant must be able to develop, maintain and operate next generation sequence analysis pipelines that perform image analysis, base calling, sequencing assembly, SNP verification and down stream annotation. The successful applicant will work in the Informatics Group on large-scale multidisciplinary research projects in collaboration with the Sequencing Core and Centers for Genomics Technologies enabling translational research and development in clinical genomics.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Applicant must have demonstrable working experience using next generation data analyses using two or more of the following platform technologies (Illumina GA, SOLID, 454).
    • Applicant must have 3+ years of experience in Bioinformatics and large scale genome sequence analyses and relevant MS and/or PhD degrees in Bioinformatics/Computer Science/Computational Biology and have a proven track record in providing solutions for laboratory-based experimentalists.
    • Applicant should have demonstrable programming skills (such as Java and/or C++/C), excellent scripting skills in PERL and be proficient in using relational database management systems such as MySQL or Oracle. Applicant must have experience with cluster computing, knowledge of resource management and job scheduling (eg PBS). Applicant should have working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments.
    • Applicant must have the ability to work in a fast moving interdisciplinary team environment as well as the ability to discuss issues and provide solutions to scientists with different backgrounds.
    • Applicant must have working knowledge in some of the following areas: analysis of GWAS data; microarray gene expression; gene prioritization and SNP, gene, pathway analyses; developing material for Bioinformatics tutorials and training courses; micro-RNA target prediction; analysis of methylation in epigenomics projects; development and use of integrated and complex, Bioinformatics packages/workflows.
