Within this project, the new recruit will:
- Oversee the overall scientific progress of the project, ensuring that transfer of knowledge activities are achieved and integrated.
- Implement a bioinformatics analysis platform to store, manage and analyze genomics and imaging data.
- Identify novel biomarkers using genomics data and analyze in vivo data obtained using optical imaging technologies.
- Expression profiling data from microarray (Affymetrix and Illumina).
- Expression profiling data from next generation sequencing (Solexa).
- Analysis of optical imaging data on tissue samples.
- Data integration.
REQUIREMENTS
The new recruit must hold a PhD or have 4-10 years work experience with a record of scientific publications and at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal as first author. The interdisciplinary nature of the positions requires solid foundations in at least three fields among the next: biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics and imaging. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the ability to work in a UNIX/Linux environment and be proficient with at least two among: a scripting language (e.g. Perl), a database system (e.g. MySQL) and a statistical programming environment (e.g R). Previous experience with next-generation sequencing data and with genomics databases as well as an understanding of statistical methods and mathematical models used in the interpretation of biological data is a desirable asset.
The aim of this position is to increase knowledge flow throughout Europe and, according to the regulations of the funding programme (FP7 Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnership Programme), the newly recruited researcher shall not have Italian nationality; moreover, the researcher must have not resided or carried out their main activity in the host country (Italy) for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
