RESPONSIBILITIES
The Stowers Institute for Medical Research has an opening for a Programmer Analyst to conduct bioinformatics/statistical analysis on a variety of data. Primary responsibilities include analyzing “omics” data generated in-house, including expression array, ChIP-chip, next-generation ChIP-seq and RNA-seq data, using both established and originally developed statistical and algorithmic methods; developing software and tools for biological data analysis; and collaborating within the group and with biologists at the institute to establish and maintain the analysis pipeline.REQUIREMENTS
- Masters degree in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or related field
- Understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and microbiology
- Understanding of analytical techniques associated with high throughput ChIP-Seq, ChIP-Chip, microarray and/or Next generation sequencing
- Knowledge of at least one scripting language (PERL, Python, Unix shell)
PREFERENCES
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to effectively function in a team-oriented environment
- Fluency with R and Bioconductor packages
- Experience with data visualization using genome browsers and cluster computing
