RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Fellow will play a key role in delivering and enabling next generation sequencing analyses for the University of Aberdeen. You will be based within the Medical Genetics Group of the Division of Applied Medicine within the School of Medicine and Dentistry, but will also be part of the University of Edinburgh’s Next-Generation Genomics Facility "GenePool" bioinformatics team.
You will act as a local contact for the North of Scotland GenePool user community, and will both perform and assist users in performing next-generation sequencing analyses. You will also play a role in ensuring that the GenePool stays abreast of developments in this rapidly changing field.REQUIREMENTS
- You should have a PhD in Biocomputing or MSc coupled with experience which demonstrates the skills and capabilities to work at this level.
- A high level of skill and extensive experience in programming including shell scripting is essential for this post as well as an understanding and experience of data analysis routines in genomics data centres with special reference to genome assembly and analysis.
- Demonstrable skill and an understanding of statistical analyses of genome-scale datasets is also required.
TERMS
As this post is funded by the Medical Research Council it will be offered for a period of 33 months.
LOCALE: Aberdeen, UKSALARY & COMPENSATION
Salary will be paid at 32,458 GBP per annum on the Grade 6 salary scale.HOW TO APPLY
