RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and develop complex data analysis systems in support of cancer genomics research projects at the Computational Biology Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Join and work closely with an in-house development team and participate in several development and analysis projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Design, develop and deploy new and existing systems, including system testing and response to user feedback.
- Work as part of the software development and research team to meet or exceed development milestones.
- Work closely with researchers to obtain user requirements and propose software architecture, algorithms and project plans.
- Perform in-depth evaluation of data and information to solve complex problems. Proactively make technical recommendations to senior staff and manager. Engage in document planning, design, and issue resolution.
- Plan project requirements and work with manager to allocate resources. Update project plans, proactively raise and recommend resolution of technical issues.
- Ensure that designs meet performance and robustness requirements.
- Engage in optimization and parallelization efforts.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of software development experience.
- Expert knowledge of Java, SQL, and HTML.
- Knowledge of MySQL, Maven, Hibernate, Spring, and Subversion, are strong plusses.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relational database design and performance tuning a strong plus.
- Strong interest in contributing to biological research with clinical applications.
- Prior involvement or interest in bioinformatics or cancer genomics domain a plus.
- Must be able to handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with numerous and complex variables, and be able to shift priorities flexibly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Cover letter encouraged.
